Approximately 6 months prior to your certification expiry date, you will receive an email from the Co-ordinating Assessor regarding your need to apply for recertification.
To continue your certification you will need to do the following:
– Complete the Recertification Application Form (link to form) and send it to: info@sarea.org.au before your certificate is due to expire. Extensions may be granted only in special circumstances and must be requested in writing (see below**).
– Confirm that you still have the rescue skills applicable to your level of qualification
– Hold a current senior first aid certificate or higher
– Attach an electronic logbook showing you have completed the required metres of climbing and hours of guiding/instructing for your level of qualification.
– Pay the recertification fee of $250
Please note that if no response is received to the email, or documents are not received by your expiry date you will revert to an Assistant Guide. Once a member has reverted to an Assistant Guide that individual will have to partake in an RPL assessment before being qualified beyond an Assistant Guide.
If this is relevant to you, please refer to the Lapsed Qualifications Policy for guidance on the process and limitations of recertification post expiry. (Lapsed qualifications policy link).
**If you have a valid reason for requiring an extension (eg, pregnancy, serious injury etc) that genuinely impacts your ability to gain required metre/hours over the three year period, an extension can be applied for in writing to the Coordinating Assessor PRIOR to your expiry date. A reason of ‘I didn’t get around to’ will not be considered valid.
