About SAREA

The South Australian Rock-climbing Education Association Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation established in 1981 to ensure safe practice and quality rock-climbing instruction in South Australia. SAREA has a representative Board and an Assessor and Advisory Panel. More information on the Aims of SAREA and the Board can be found on the About Us page.

Rock-climbing Instructor Program

The South Australian Rock-climbing Education Association (SAREA) has been serving South Australia since 1981, and was established to assist competent rock-climbers gain skills and accreditation to become guides and instructors.

The SAREA rock-climbing instructor program will not teach you how to climb. You will need to gain this experience through either community agencies, private organizations, clubs or training institutions.

You must have climbing experience before you start the program – to at least ‘Assistant Guide’ standard.

SAREA has 5 awards:

  1. Assistant Guide (AG)
  2. Top Rope Guide (TRG)
  3. Top Rope Instructor/ Single Pitch Guide (TRI)
  4. Multi-pitch Lead Climbing Guide (MPG)
  5. Multi-pitch Lead Climbing Instructor (MPI)

In addition to the awards above, experienced instructors may get involved with the organisation through the Assessor and Advisory panel.
